Limited company accounts in Manchester

Year end accounts, Corporation Tax and Companies House filings for limited companies, prepared by qualified accountants and explained in plain English. One fixed fee, agreed before we start.

Who this is for

Running a limited company comes with paperwork that sole traders never see. Your company is a legal entity in its own right, so it has its own accounts, its own tax bill and its own deadlines.

We work with company directors in Manchester who would rather spend their time on the business than on filing rules. That might be a one-person consultancy, a contractor, a shop, or a growing firm with staff. If you've just set up a company, or your current accountant leaves you guessing, we'd be glad to help.

What limited company accounts involve

Every year a limited company has to prepare statutory accounts that show how it performed and what it owns and owes. These go to Companies House and to HMRC. Alongside them sits the Company Tax Return, which works out the Corporation Tax due on the company's profits. There's also the confirmation statement, which keeps the details Companies House holds about the company up to date.

The deadlines for each are different and the penalties for missing them add up quickly. Getting the figures right matters too. The accounts are public, and the tax return decides how much of your profit goes to HMRC.

Where we can save you money

We know HMRC's rules well, and we look at every part of your company's finances for legitimate ways to reduce tax. That includes making sure every allowable cost is claimed and talking through the most tax-efficient way to pay yourself as a director.

How it works

  1. A free first chat. Tell us about your company, when your year end is and where your records are. We'll answer your questions without any jargon.
  2. A fixed fee. We agree the price up front, either as a one-off fee or as part of a monthly package.
  3. We prepare everything. We work through your records, draw up the accounts and tax return, and go through them with you before anything is filed.
  4. We file and keep you informed. Once you're happy, we submit to Companies House and HMRC and let you know what's due and when.

What you get from us

  • Fully qualified accountants who have been doing this work for 20 years.
  • A small, independent team: Crooks Books is not part of a chain, so you deal with the same people each year.
  • Clear explanations of your figures and what they mean for you.
  • A fixed fee, so there's no surprise bill at the end.

Services that often go with it

Most limited companies need more than year end accounts. Plenty of our clients pair this with other services in one monthly package:

Directors usually need a personal tax return too, and tidy monthly bookkeeping makes the year end quicker and cheaper. See all our services.

Questions about limited company accounts

When are limited company accounts due?

Private limited companies usually have nine months from the end of their financial year to file accounts with Companies House. Corporation Tax is normally payable nine months and one day after the year end, and the Company Tax Return is due twelve months after it. We'll keep track of your dates for you.

What's the difference between statutory accounts and a Company Tax Return?

Statutory accounts show the company's income, costs, assets and debts for the year and go to Companies House and HMRC. The Company Tax Return (form CT600) goes to HMRC only and works out how much Corporation Tax the company owes on its profits.

My company didn't trade this year. Do I still need to file?

Yes. A dormant company still has to file accounts and a confirmation statement with Companies House, and HMRC may expect a tax return if they've sent a notice. The accounts are simpler, but the deadlines still apply.

What do you need from me to prepare the accounts?

Usually your bank statements, sales and purchase records, receipts for costs, details of any loans or assets, and last year's accounts if you have them. If your records aren't in great shape, tell us on the first chat and we'll explain how we can help.

How much do limited company accounts cost?

We charge a fixed fee, agreed before we start, or you can include your accounts in a monthly package. The price depends on the size of your company and how organised the records are, so we'll talk it through on a free first chat.

Can you switch from my current accountant part way through the year?

Yes. Changing accountant is straightforward. We contact your old accountant for the information we need, so you don't have to chase it yourself.
